Supporting Young People with a Stammer

Conference notes with concern the lack of awareness and support for those with a stammer in Scotland’s schools.

Conference congratulates the Scottish Stammering Network on the work that they have done to raise awareness of stammering and the impact that it has on individuals and their mental health.

Conference believes that young people with a stammer and their teachers need more support to ensure that Scotland’s school are an inclusive and accessible environment for all learners.

Conference resolves that stammering, which effects around 5% of young people in Scotland, should be incorporated into teacher training to raise awareness of this issue and equip teachers to support young people with this condition.
