National Manufacturing Institute for Scotland

Council welcomes the recent announcement by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon that the National Manufacturing Institute for Scotland (NMIS) will be based in Renfrewshire and the great transformational potential this brings for a former industrial heartland.

Council further endorses the decision insofar that the Institute represents £65 million of investment in Renfrewshire and its surrounding area.

Council supports the creation of the NMIS, which aims to make Scotland a global leader in advanced manufacturing, combining research, industry and public sector expertise to transform skills, productivity and innovation in a sector which already accounts for half of Scotland's international exports.

Council fully supports the basing of the NMIS in the West of Scotland, which forms part of a wave of new industrial development which is bringing jobs and investment to the region.
