Foster Care

Conference expresses concern at the shortage of foster carers which exists within Scotland and the continuing challenges facing foster carers in Scotland on financial grounds.


Conference notes that Scotland does not at present have a recommended minimum allowance for foster carers unlike other parts of the United Kingdom.


Conference supports the introduction of a recommended minimum allowance for all foster carers in Scotland subject to a review by the Scottish Government.


Conference believes that the recommended minimum allowance should be enshrined in law as part of Scotland’s social safety net.


Conference recognising the shortage of carers calls for the introduction of a national foster care campaign to accompany the findings of the Independent Care Review.
