Drug Decriminalisation and Cannabis Legalisation

Conference notes that the global 'war on drugs' is failing and current drug policy requires an urgent review that considers the complete decriminalisation of substance use and possession; further supports the legalisation of cannabis for recreational use; acknowledges the work of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP); their efforts towards achieving these goals and moving forward to universal drug regulation.

Conference agrees that approaching substance misuse as a public health issue rather than a criminal matter would greater support families and communities; lift the stigma associated with addiction; remove barriers between police and communities and allow policy to reflect the values of our caring society.

Conference further notes that lifting barriers to medical & scientific research would open access to appropriate medical usage for patients who would benefit from medicinal cannabis.
